Helen Copeland - Specialist Energy Industry Copywriter

I’m Helen Copeland. I’m a writer who’s been working with national and international companies within the energy sector for over 10 years. I’ve written about exciting multi-million-pound projects as well as many of the remarkable solutions, systems and products that are playing a vital role in creating a low-carbon future.

My approach is to keep things simple. I don’t believe there’s any need for complex, jargon-heavy sentences and overcomplicated wording. I’m here to make sure your message is clear, not to baffle your audience with long words and technical language unless, of course, it’s a technical piece!

Working Together

I like to build strong and lasting relationships with my clients. The better I get to know you, the easier it will be to create content that attracts customers and influencers to the great work your company is doing.

1. The conversation

I like to have an initial conversation to find out more about you and your company and to talk about what your objectives for the piece of work are. If I understand the audience you’re targeting and why, I can refine my research accordingly.

2. The quote

I normally quote on a project basis. This means you only have one fixed cost to budget for.

3. The brief

Once my quote has been accepted I’ll send you a brief to fill in (I’m also happy to do this over the phone Q&A style). The brief will detail, for example: key messages, format, approximate length, and will provide me with the information I need to do a great job for you.

4. The writing

I’ll do telephone interviews and research and combine these with the information you provided in the brief to write a first draft of the work you’ve commissioned. It will be written in a way that meets your brand guidelines and connects with your target audience.

5. The review

I’ll present you with a first draft for review. Your comments (and any feedback from your team or customers) will be included in a second draft, with any further minor amends incorporated in the final draft.

6. The approval

I’ll ask you to approve the final document via email before invoicing for the project.
